Paperless classrooms in the UAE

Paperless classrooms are replacing textbooks in the UAE with an already popular systematic mobile product – the iPad. The country’s goal is to place a tablet in the hands of every university student within four years. A partnership with Apple in California was formed last April and includes training services for both teachers and students.  Prior to the beginning of the Fall 2012 academic year, Apple shipped 14,000 tablets to the UAE to distribute to all first-year students in the country’s three universities: Zayed University, United Arab Emirates University, and the Higher Colleges of Technology. The investment is a step towards promoting environmentally friendly values in a country which has one of the highest per capita incomes in the world, and where reliance on low-cost energy is taken for granted, resulting in an extraordinarily high carbon footprint.
